Why is our Singles Ministry called Palms?
Initially, there was curiosity and intrigue around a single palm tree. It’s strong even though it doesn’t look like it, resilient against the most powerful weather conditions, flexible, stands above the rest, etc. As the Holy Spirit pressed me to dig deeper into its context from a Biblical perspective much more was revealed- The palm branch is a symbol of victory, triumph, and peace. Palms are associated with Jesus’ Triumphal entry (John 12:13). The righteousness of man is compared to a flourishing palm tree (Psalm 92:12). Palms were used at the entry gates of a new temple in Jerusalem (Ezekiel 40:16-18). Jericho was known as the City of Palm Trees (Dueteronomy 34:3).. which is also where Elijah ascended into Heaven (2 Kings 2:4-15). Palms were referred to as luxuriant trees used to celebrate the Lord during the Festival of Tabernacles (Leviticus 23:40-42). While the Israelites were wandering in the wilderness, they came upon Elim which is described as having “12 springs of water and 70 date palms”... did someone say PARADISE amidst the harsh conditions of the wilderness?! (Exodus 15:27) The palm also represents victory of the Spirit over the flesh as described in (Revelation 7:9)
Deep right?! Yeah.. the Holy Spirit and God’s Living Word is PRETTY AMAZING!! To say the least..
